The department’s research is structured around the following areas:
Area 1 – Understanding and controlling gut microbiomes
Area 2 – Rethinking food and nutritional strategies
- Gut microbiota in ruminants: optimizing digestive health and efficiency (projects: Smarter (2020–2024), Holoruminant (2021–2025), MicroSigns (2021–2025), ConEHECtion (2022–2025), etc.)
- Identify nutritional levers of action (nutritional practices and functional ingredients) to positively orient gut microbiota and preserve intestinal barrier function (projects: AJI2021, MIZU, CARNOT project with INRAe Tours, COQ, Microsaf, Microsleep, etc.)
Area 3 – Adapting livestock production systems and sectors
- Supporting and adapting livestock farming activities towards agro-ecological, climate and food transitions
- Utilization of grassland floral diversity and secondary metabolites as a lever for integrated health management in small ruminant farming. Understanding metabolic pathways
This department works with the Dairy Cows & Poultry Farming Platform.
